Who Is It For?
The course is designed to educate and certify personal trainers, wellness professionals, group fitness instructors and yoga teachers who wish to expand their professional experience, knowledge and qualifications. This training is also great for students of Pilates who wish to gain more knowledge about the foundations of Pilates.
At the Conclusion of the Course
- You’ll be able to teach Matwork classes in a range of different environments – from individual clients to large classes, covering a range of levels, from beginner to intermediate.
- You’ll learn how to take a large group class safely and provide different levels of challenge
- You’ll learn how to program your Matwork classes for athletes and advanced clients.
Part A 12 day intensive
The intensive program will cover the theory, history and principles of Pilates. Students will be taken through the details of 15 foundation and warm up exercises plus 15 key basic mat exercises and be able to develop class plans to instruct, modify and teach one-on-one and group classes.
With a focus on safety, sessions will also include pre-screening, common postural deviations and injury prevention. In addition, participants will gain practical knowledge in how to run classes to best utilise music, space and your environment.
Part B Correspondence.
Part B allows you to complete your remaining 80 training hours by correspondence, in your own time and is included in the cost. The correspondence component begins 4 weeks before the course commencement date (Part A) and then continues at a personal pace, after the 12 day intensive, for as long as you need. This section includes online components plus journaling your attendance, personal practice and practical teaching of Pilates classes.
The course will be led by highly respected trainer Linda Newman, bringing a combination of expertise in Pilates with a strong background in anatomy and physiology. Some specialist session will also be taught by John Ogilvie, Swami Pujan, Lila Kirtana and other senior staff.
Many students report the food at Byron Yoga Centre to be a highlight. Gathering around the large dining tables together with fellow students and teachers, you’ll make new friends, whilst enjoying our healthy, vegetarian meals that are served three times a day. Our menu is perfect for supporting your practice: market fresh and organic, where possible, and designed along Ayurvedic principles to be light and cleansing. We also cater to allergies and food intolerances.
